Reneé is an illustrator and fine artist based in San Francisco, California. She has a passion for art, color, and language.

Since childhood she’s been sketching, drawing, and painting the world around her. Her art reflects a love of detail and individuality. She creates educational materials as a conduit to knowledge otherwise less accessible. Reneé has this to say about her work:

“For me, illustration is communication. Two leaves from the same plant may be formed in an identical pattern, but the way light hits them is unique to each. There is a world of greens present in each leaf, different from one another and new in each moment. When I draw and paint them, I’m depicting a glimpse into that moment so I’m able to share it with others.

When I engage in conversation it’s sometimes easier for me to make a quick sketch or move my hands in a descriptive way that transcends verbal communication. I love language and the possibilities of describing something with words in one language vs another (I speak Russian fluently as well as some Mandarin Chinese). Drawing is a language that enables me to communicate an idea the way I visualise it. What brings me the greatest joy is when my work opens up a door to the person with whom I’m conversing—drawing helps me listen. When someone responds to my illustrations, they give me the opportunity to experience a moment of their own perception.”
